Ideas from November 8, 2023.
Method is the way you do something, an approach, a framework for engagement and results, including:
- Ethnography
- Autoethnography
- Observational (Scientific)
- Interviews, Discussion
- Discourse Analysis
- Close Reading
- Surveys, etc. (Quantatative)
- Historical Research (archives)
- Secondary Sources (reading)
- Case Studies
These are tools for research. How you use that tool makes it “feminist”:
- collaboratively: coalitional, cross-perspective, share or undermine expertise or objectivity
- as collective action (goal oriented, use)
- with care, respect, ethical engagement
- introspectively: personal is the political
- As process, which is itself is the point: how you do it, the living and doing of it, what and how you learn, the doing of it with others,
- the DOING OF IDEAS
- FEEL: affect (something new in the world)
- attending to absence and power: how things were made, what wasn’t made
- sets of orienting questions (power, oppression, and liberation, joy, love)
- transgenerational
- embodied
- through stories we tell and want to hear
- honoring personal authority
- action oriented
- Creative methods: expressive, evocative
- Unconventional, leading to Disturbances. Unmaking to remake. Saying NO. Saying Yes. Pushing out of comfort zones (radical?)
- Mess. Uncontained. Uncontrollable (radical?)
- Outside the rules of what is right and good and proper and the norm. No more Daddy’s Girls (radical?)
